Raattama village
A small village with a shop, ski trails starting right by it, and our cabin Villa Tupasvilla on a quiet private road. Vuontispirtti is 10 km away.
Raattama and the surroundings
Raattama is a village in the Kittilä municipality in western Lapland, at the edge of Pallas‑Yllästunturi National Park. There is one shop, a lot of forest and fell, and no queues.
Far from Levi, on purpose
From Kittilä airport most traffic turns towards Levi. Raattama is about 80 km in the other direction. That is the whole point: the ski trails and the fells are here, the crowds are not.
Forget traveling all the way to Yellowstone, the view from this cabin’s porch easily gives it a run for its money. Nestled in a peaceful, secluded spot, the cabin offers absolute privacy with the Pallas‑Yllästunturi National Park stretching across the opposite shore.
Pallas‑Yllästunturi National Park
The national park begins 500 m from our Saivo cabin, where the nearest ski trail also starts. From Villa Tupasvilla it is 25 km to Pallas. Marked hiking routes run through the park in summer and ski trails in winter.
Saivojärvi and Saivokero
Our Saivo cabin stands on the shore of Saivojärvi. Across the lake is Saivokero, with the fells of Pallas‑Ylläs National Park behind it. In summer there is a rowing boat at the cabin; in winter the lake is where we cut a hole for ice swimming.
Ski trails
From Villa Tupasvilla the trails are 500 m away in the village. From Saivo the nearest trail starts 500 m away, inside the national park.
Hiking
Snow-free months are for walking in the national park. Snowshoes are included with both cabins for the winter.
Shop and fuel
The village shop is 500 m from Villa Tupasvilla and about 10 km from Saivo. TODO: confirm fuel availability and shop opening hours with the owner.
Driving from Kittilä airport
Kittilä village and the airport are about 80 km from Villa Tupasvilla and about 90 km from Saivo. TODO: owner to confirm the recommended route and any winter driving notes.
You will want a car
Public transport in the area is sparse. A car makes the cabins, the farm, the national park and the shop all easy to reach.
Seasons
In winter the reindeer are home in the enclosure, the trails are skied and the snowshoes are in use. In summer the rowing boat is on the lake and the park is for walking. TODO: owner to add typical snow and light conditions by month if wanted.
